Integration Test

Integration test occurs when independently designed components are integrated with the rest of the subject system to verify that they interoperate and do not destabilize the system. In a complex system, integration testing can present a tremendous challenge to fault isolation for several reasons. Integration testing must accommodate individual component development completion times. During integration testing, component interfaces may be in a state of flux. During integration testing, components may not be stable or have unintended affect on other components.

Adding several new components to a build may make problem diagnosis very difficult.

So new component integrations are sometimes staggered to minimize system perturbation. Integration tests are usually against the use cases or an acceptance test.
